The 2008 ISWC Production World Championship in Dungarvan, Ireland came to an end today, unfortunately without a valid result. The whole event period was cought in a strong northerly flow, recording the coldest week in December since beginning of the chronicles.
Nevertheless the 44 competitors from all over Europe found a perfect venue for speedsailing, and everybody is convinced of the quality of both the sandbar and "The Cunnigar". Preparations for an event late in 2009 and a probable record attempt on a standby base have already been started.

No more racing for another time... the wind was strong enough in the
afternoon but it was impossible to lay a course, as the wind was
blowing directly down the strip. We will use the holdover day tomorrow
with skippersmeeting at 12:00 and then make a call.
Next is the official closing party at "The Mooring".

We are still unlucky with the wind. While it was blowing all night, so hard that the Red Bull Tipi was ripped into pieces, taking some equipment down with it... the morning came and all wind was gone. It never filled back in during the day, os competition was cancelled at 14:30 as the last possible start before it gets to dark during the leg would have been at 15:30. There are two days left now, and the forecast for tomorrow morning looks like we could get some wind to sail the high tide course along the "Cunnigar", as it could be too northerly for the regular low tide strip along the sandbar. Fingers crossed !

Finally the wind is coming. It was dead calm today, so the race committee had enough time to finish the setup of the highwater course for westerly directions. Now, in the evening, the wind is already blowing hard from southwest, and everything is prepared for an early start at 8:30 to exactly hit the high tide. Stay tuned with us here at www.speedworldcup.com !
