ISWC Speed Windsurfing World Championship Fuerteventura 2008: Day 6 PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 31 July 2008

Another two rounds of speed sailing have been completed today in epic conditions.  Antoine Albeau (FRA, Starboard) and Karin Jaggi (SUI, F2, North) are now leading the overall ranking after six rounds and one discard.

The day started already windy, and all sailors were aware of what would follow. The first start was scheduled for 11:00 then, and the 63 competitors were off on the water.

ISWC Speed Windsurfing World Championship Fuerteventura 2008: Day 5 PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 30 July 2008
Another sunny day on Sotavento Beach, Fuerteventura. The wind only came up a little bit in the evening, so the riders were released in the afternoon already. The forecast for the upcoming final three days of the 2008 Speed Windsurfing World Championship is very good, so the race committee decided not to start in marginal conditions.

Tuesday, 29 July 2008

The wind did not meet suitable conditions during the whole day, so we called the race off at 14:30 to allow the riders some rest after yesterdays tough conditions. A good decision, as the wind completely died afterwards and even shifted to onshore for a few minutes.

Hopefully we do not get the "Calima" easterly wind, with hot air blown over from the sahara. The forecast looks pretty excellent for the rest of the week, so we are sure to get some more good rounds in.

fuerte1.jpgAntoine Albeau (FRA, Starboard) and Valerie Ghibaudo (FRA, Loft Sails) are still leading the ISWC Speed Windsurfing World Championship in Fuerteventura.

Both races today were won by Antoine in the mens fleet, and Karin Jaggi (SUI, F2, North) in the womens fleet. In difficult conditions with breaking waves of up to 1.5 meter and up to 30 knots of wind, the majority of the competitors had difficulties to score good runs.
