warp2008.jpg

Our goal during the development of the new Warp F2008 was simple: create the ultimate Race Sail. In order to reach our target we defined a few clear terms of reference:

I. Create maximum forward motion for explosive starts and acceleration after the jibe-marks

This we have achieved through incorporating the following amendments:

  1. Better pumping ability due to softness and smoother distribution of depth throughout luff curve.

  2. Kai consciously used very high luff tension, which created strong sail foil tension in the lower third of the sail. This means a stiffer profile in the area where power is generated.

  3. The INDIVIDUAL.BATTEN.ANGLE ensures maximum stability in the lower power center. The battens are arranged at almost horizontal angles to take full advantage of stiffness.

  4. The extreme sail profile at the level of the rider was also consciously chosen since this area of the sail is responsible for maximum propulsion and therefore plays a decisive role for acceleration.

  5. For extra stability in the most vulnerable areas of the profile (the area of maximum width around the boom), Kai Hopf developed the FULL.BOOM.CONCEPT. The boom ends exactly at the ends of the battens to keep the sail taut across the entire length. This contributes to faster power transfer from wind pressure to propulsion. To complement these construction features and further optimize the Dragster effect, all materials in the lower part of double surface mast pocket (= power center) is made of PH2X, a high-tech yacht sail material with minimum stretch.

II. Cover a maximum wind range in both directions high- AND low end

This we have achieved through incorporating the following amendments:

  1. Deeper profile in the mid to upper sections creating a more balanced depth distribution. This creates a little bit more lift to get you going quicker.

  2. Better low end due to delivery of constant power

  3. Better top end speed and control due to more efficient luff curve, softness, and cleaner, smoother top.

  4. More stable draft due to amendments of the luff curve making the sail working more cohesively

  5. M.B.S.CONFIGURATION (Maximum Batten Stiffness Configuration): For optimum profile stability we used only super stiff tube battens with a large diameter. Apart from two piece tubes (solid tip plus tube with extra large diameter) we even used some three piece battens with an oversized second tube over an inner tube for extra stiffness.

III. Since World Cup racing is extremely physical (even for World Cup Pros, especially the longer the event goes on), the sail should transform its raw power as easy as possible into forward motion

This we have achieved through incorporating the following amendments:

  1. Softer than 2007 due to softer materials in the upper luff plus adjustments in the luff curve.

  2. Deeper profile in the mid to upper sections creating a more balanced depth distribution.

  3. Better pumping ability due to softness and smoother distribution of depth throughout the luff curve.

  4. The INDIVIDUAL.BATTEN.ANGLE creates steeper batten angles in the top that additionally support the soft and controlled three-dimensional twist.

  5. On top of these modifications we shouldn't forget to mention the incredible influence of the HYPER.CAMs. The shifted roller position enables the cambers to touch the mast with the rollers only. Hard to imagine any racing sail with a better rotation than the Warp F2008.

Summary: What's new

  1. A deeper profile in the mid to upper sections creating a more balanced depth distribution.

  2. Softer than 2007 due to softer materials in the upper luff plus the adjustments in the luff curve.

  3. Better pumping ability due to softness and smoother distribution of depth throughout the luff curve.

  4. Delivery of constant, yet very controlled power.

  5. More stable draft due to luff curve which works more cohesively

  6. Better low end due to delivery of constant power

  7. Better top end speed and control due to more efficient luff curve, softness, and cleaner, smoother top.

Sustained success through expertise:

What do the following well-known names in windsurfing have in common? They were all involved in the development and test process of the WARP F2008:

Kai Hopf (North Sails Designer), Jimmy Diaz (North Sails chief tester), Björn Dunkerbeck (most successful windsurfer of all times), Peter Volwater (one of the best alrounders since years), Karin Jaggi (speed record holder and 24 times world champion), Patrik Diethelm (swiss speed and slalom icon), Cyril Moussilmani (Second best French racer), Peter Slate (Ex-Neil Pryde chief tester).

"The new Warp dashes you foward with ease" Björn Dunkerbeck

"In no-rule PWA Slalom42 races you need to pick up the pace faster than anyone else, otherwise you are out of the race. The new Warp F2008 is the key to explosive starts and acceleration which helps me to fight for top rankings"
Patrik Diethelm
