2008_05_05-hydroptere.jpgl’Hydroptère team is finishing the assembly of the record contender with a launching scheduled for next week.

In conjunction with the 2008 record campaign, l’Hydroptère is currently at the CNIM (Construction Industrielles de la Méditerranée) in La Seyne sur Mer, near Toulon, for the last stage of the works.

The platform and the masts have been transported from Lorient by cargo ship, whereas the foils were delivered by road from Brittany, where they were modified at the B&B shipyard in La Trinité sur Mer.

The assembly completed, static trials may now be undertaken.  These trials consist in pre-stressing the components in order to adjust and regulate the measurement systems so that they can provide accurate data during sailing sessions.  The trimaran will be suspended above the ground by crane, and the team will carry out stress and deformation measurements on approximately fifty points of the boat.

The flying trimaran should be back in the water on 22nd May.  She will first sail in the harbour of Toulon before proceeding to Port St. Louis, her base for the record campaign.
