Macquire Innovation claims to be fastest boat PDF Print E-mail

milogo.pngSeaSailSurf reports that MI has scored a 48.5 knots run on the last day of its 56 day record attempt period. In only 17 knot winds, their Lindsay Cunningham designed craft, Macquarie Innovation, was timed over the 500m qualifying course at 48.57 knots and recorded speeds in excess of 51 knots during the 20 second run. It is expected that the final ratified speed will be reduced to 48.15 knots due to tidal influences experienced on the course.

You can find the shortlist for the 2008 Speedsailing Hall of Fame Poll on the right side. The committee was consindering carefully, who should be on the list and who is not to be listed yet. Remember, its the Hall of Fame, and not the best current rider who is elected.

You can vote for every section, Windsurfing Man and Women, and Kiteboarding Men and Women. The results will be published on the 15th of January, 2009.

 
Hydroptere peaks 61 knots and capsizes PDF Print E-mail

hydroptere_capsized.pngAnother spectacular crash of one of the speed sailing outright record contenders. Hydroptere attained a peak speed of 61 knots during yesterdays morning session, but the gust that accelerated the flying boat also caused it to capsize. The crew, including worldcup rider Anders Bringdal, was not seriously injured, and the boat shall be towed back to the harbour today.
 
All Time world Rankings updated PDF Print E-mail

After this autumns record attempts the all time world rankings based on WSSRC approved speeds have been updated. The Luderitz crew pushed the limits over 50 knots, and to join the top ten a speed of more than 48 knots is required now - for top 20 already 45 knots.

The mautical mile ranking is still led by Hydroptere with more than 43 knots now, and a big gap to the second ranked Bjorn Dunkerbeck on a Windsurfer.
