Fred HaywoodFred Haywood was the first Windsurfer over 30 knots, an unbelievable barrier in 1983.

Here is a statement from Fred:

"I have 3 children, Skyler 18, Meryl 16 and Evan 5 here on Maui. I own and operate Fred Haywood Realty in Paia town and live in Kula, Maui. We are involved with selling real estate across Maui.

I windsurf with my two oldest kids whenever the wind is good and they prefer the waveriding of Hookipa and Kanaha Beach. I still ride Maui Sails and my son Skyler is sponsored by Naish Sails and will be attending college next year. Meryl is dividing her time between home school, windsurfing, painting and sculpting. She wants to go to art college in Europe.

I often have thoughts of the speed sailing days and how it has changed so dramatically over the years. I always called it the hurry up and wait sport as records will only be broken in extreme wind conditions."
