European Speed Championships Day 1 PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 02 November 2009

A windless day welcomed the competirors at day one of the Speed Europeans in Dungarvan Ireland. After the mandatory skippersmeeting the competition was put on hold to see if the conditions improve, but it became clear quite fast that there wasnt anything to be expected for the day.

In expectation of the good conditions forecasted for the next three days the competitors were released early. Skippersmeeting will be at 0900 tomorrow, with the low tide at 1300 this gives a window of 6 hours for speedsailing along the sandbank.

European Speed Championships update PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 26 October 2009

Here is some information for everybody attending the 2009 Speed Windsurfing and Kiteboarding Europeans:

Transport:

We have had a very small take up of the Dublin Dungarvan transport, we are waiting for the final numbers to see if there are any alternatives or if we can match people up to hire together. Anyone thinking of using it who hasn’t indicated that to Martin Waldron, please respond immediately.

Insurance:

There was a bit of surprise indicated by some people to the insurance requirement, we have to point out that this requirement always existed and was noted twice in the event programme (as per the event press releases sent around). The final cost on site for getting insurance for those who have no sufficient coverage is €35.00. The organisers are not making a penny out of this requirement, we just can’t risk being personally liable for a 3rd party claim.

Accommodation:

The vast majority of competitors are staying in the Park Hotel Dungarvan. The discounted rate is €45.00 per person sharing based on double occupancy or €65.00 single occupancy. There are also holiday homes adjacent to the hotel which are owned by the hotel and give access to the pool and sauna which we reckon will be well appreciated at the end of a days November sailing in Ireland.

Other than this, keep all your fingers crossed for good winds.

It is looking quite promising for the next period of the 2009 European Speedsailing Championships. The final call will be made again next Friday.

Speed Europeans Postponed PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 09 October 2009

Due to the bad longterm forecast for the first period of the European Speed Championchips, the classes IKA and ISWC in conjunction with the local organizer decided to postpone the event. The next chance for a start is the first week of November.

There was only a slight chance to get wind from the right direction on a maximum of two days during the event, with generally low wind speeds. The whole period seems to be caught in a south-easterly flow with not much hope of a drastic change.

We will keep you informed on the weather development for the second period, and make early warnings two weeks in advance and a final call one week ahead again.
