50 knots down, 100 km/h next ! PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 03 October 2008

Subject to WSSRC ratification, Sebastien Cattelan (FRA) has finally broken the magical 50 knots barrier, the holy gral of speed sailing. Accompanied by several high 49 knots runs from himself, Alexandre Caizergues and Jerome Bila (all France) he was the only sailor finally getting to 50.26 knots.

Special attendance was paid to the required water depth, and the organizer in cooperation with the WSSRC commissioner present clearly ensured that the rule was strictly applied.

Full details, pictures and reports can be found at www.luderitz-speed.com

Luderitz Speed Challenge: Day 2 PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 16 September 2008

luderitz.jpgAfter yesterdays training session everybody was keen to hit the water for the 2008 PKRA tour final, included in the Luderitz Speed Sailing record attempt. The average of the two best runs of each rider will be taken as result counting towards the Kitespeed World Championship title.

Conditions were really tough today, with winds around 40 knots and a slightly to deep angle. Rob Douglas (USA) was the man of the day, setting a new record an now being the fourth fastest man in the world with an amazing 47.64 knots run.

Also starting well was Bjorn Dunkerbeck (SUI, T1, North), with a new open water record for windsurfers. Marc Avela probably set a new spanish kite record as well, all records subject to WSSRC ratification

The event is fully coverad at www.luderitz-speed.com, check there for more news !

drivenbywind.jpgNow Southend has shown it's potential the interest in participating has also grown so its time to get the entry forms out to you. Entry fee will remain as last year, so with the exchange rates as they are it's actually cheaper for those flying in. drivenbywind will run for three months with a possible month extension should the weather fail us, we are also considering a break over the Christmas period to save on transportation problems during the holidays.

Hopefully we'll make it a speedy end to 2008
