France is still the nation to beat, but the Netherlands are coming closer !
Congratulations to The Loft, winning the manufacturers title for the sailmakers and Carbon Art, who is winning the manufacturers title for the boardmakers. It was a tough competition and the major brands involved in speed windsurfing are all very close together.

Wind on the very last day brought finally results for the speed windsurfers and kiteboarders in Dungarvan, Ireland. There was just enough time to complete a few fast runs along the speedstrip, with the fastest speed of the event set by Dave Williams (GBR, Best) at 44.2 knots over 250m.
Andrea Baldini (ITA) set the top speed in the windsurfers fleet with slightly over 40 knots, and Zara Davis (GBR) took victory in the womens fleet.
In the Kiteboarding fleet, Jason McCaffrey (GBR, Cabrinha) and Jemma Grobbelaar (GBR, Flexifoil) were on top after two completed rounds.
The event came to an end with the pricegiving ceremony held in the Dungarvan Harbour Yacht Club, and a party that is lasting until the late night.
A big thank you goes out to all sponsors, supporters and volunteers that made this event happen !

Another long day came to an end, without further results. After a drastical change in the weather forecast, the race committee was looking to set a proper course the whole day, but apart from a few violent gusts the wind never stabilized enough to start a race.
Tomorrow the action returns to the original event venue as the foracast is calling for southwesterly winds.

Day three of the competition brought some action in the afternoon, after the race committee relocated the participants to a new venue a few kilometers away with a better angle to the wind.
Racing was started then at 14:00 hours, in very gusty and shifty winds variying from zero to 25 knots. Still the course was pretty broad and hte gusts usually never long enough to help the competitors over the complete course.
After 90 minutes the wind dropped completely, resulting in several rescue actions.

European Speed Championships Day 2 |

Tuesday, 03 November 2009 |
A lot of action today, but unfortunately without any result. The wind was not as strong es it was forecasted, and the competition put on hold fairly early in the morning.
The wind came up around noon, but too westerly, or almost WNW, so that the preferred course along the sandbar was unsailable. The race committee tried to set a course further out in the bay, but due to the low tide there was nowhere enough space to place the course safely.
In the afternoon, with the upcoming water, the wind disappeared unfortunately, and competition was called of around 15:30 hours.
The forecast for tomorrow should give us some more possibilies, and strong winds forecasted for Thursday. Fingers crossed !

A windless day welcomed the competirors at day one of the Speed Europeans in Dungarvan Ireland. After the mandatory skippersmeeting the competition was put on hold to see if the conditions improve, but it became clear quite fast that there wasnt anything to be expected for the day.
In expectation of the good conditions forecasted for the next three days the competitors were released early. Skippersmeeting will be at 0900 tomorrow, with the low tide at 1300 this gives a window of 6 hours for speedsailing along the sandbank.
