Kick off for the 2008 Speed:World:Cup season PDF Print E-mail

Even if conditions have not been favourable on thursday and friday for the Driven by Wind and Masters of Speed record attempts, the action will start tomorrow with the first event of the 2008 season. The first edition of the "Coupe de France" will be run from tomorrow 22nd of March, in Port St. Louis, followed by the Gruissan Speedweek starting on Monday. We are down in Port St. Louis at the moment to support Jochen Krauth and his team, and we hope that we can establish a livecast from the race action later in the week. Stay tuned with us !

We have a good prediction for North West wind for friday march 21st, 35/40 Knots with some gusts at 45 Knots, 110 km/h we saw on tv weather reports. North west direction on the canal is rare but it could happen...

Father of a certain Antoine Albeau, Jean-Marie had a front row seat for the world record run for speed sailing on the 5th March at Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer. Passionate windsurfer in his own right, but acting as coach and caddy for the day (but what a day !) he talks us through his view of an emotional day !

Double world champion in 2006, triple world champion in 2007, Antoine Albeau wrote himself into the history books on March 5th 2008 by setting a new world record for sail speed. With his 49.09 knots, the big Frenchie has set the bar very high indeed and establishes himself as the men closest to that 50 knot mark, and very much the man to beat. Here’s the WJ interview with a champion in every sense of the word !
